1. Information Collection and Permissions

EcoSelect is designed to be minimally invasive. We explicitly request the following permissions to provide our core service:

• activeTab and Host Permissions: We only read the product title from the page content when you actively open the extension on supported e-commerce websites (including Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Target, and regional stores like Noon).
• storage: We use local browser storage to save your basic extension settings and preferences.
• No Browsing History: We do not track, monitor, or store your general web browsing history. The extension only activates on specific product pages when explicitly opened.

2. Information Usage

The product titles we collect are used exclusively to search for sustainable alternatives. This data is sent to our secure backend, processed to find eco-friendly matches, and returned to your screen.

3. Data Storage, Security, and Retention

We take strict measures to ensure your data remains secure and is not kept longer than necessary:

• Search queries are hashed using SHA-256 before storage.
• Raw query text is retained for debugging purposes only and is not linked to any user identifier, device, or account.
• Cached data is automatically deleted after 7 days.
• Data Location: Our backend services are hosted on secure cloud infrastructure. Data processed by our extension is transferred to and stored in these environments solely for the purpose of fulfilling your search requests.

4. Third-Party Services

To provide accurate results, EcoSelect interacts securely with the following third-party services:

• Google Gemini AI: Used to analyze product context and identify sustainable equivalents.
• Serper.dev: Used to securely search the web for live product links and pricing in your selected region.
